Phases4 (Genichiro → Isshin Sword → Isshin Spear → Isshin Lightning)
RewardMemory, Immortal Severance / Purification / Return ending
WeaknessLightning Reversal (Phase 4), Ichimonji (posture damage)

🛡️ Preparation

Recommended Prosthetics

  • Loaded Umbrella (Magnet) — blocks Isshin's wind attacks in Phase 3
  • Firecrackers — stun windows for healing
  • Shuriken — chase down when he creates distance

Recommended Combat Arts

  • Ichimonji Double — best overall, recovers posture
  • Mortal Draw — high damage, costs emblems
  • High Monk — counters sweeps, good posture damage

Items

  • Pellets — passive healing during long phases
  • Ako's Sugar — +attack power
  • Divine Confetti — optional, small damage boost

Vitality Check

Recommended: 15+ Vitality (60 Prayer Beads). Posture upgrades help immensely since this is a posture fight.

⚔️ Phase 1 — Genichiro, Way of Tomoe

Genichiro is the warm-up. He has 2 deathblow markers but low posture.

🗡️ Phase 2 — Isshin (Katana)

Isshin draws his katana. His attacks are fast and precise.

Key Attacks

  • 3-hit combo: Deflect all three, then counterattack.
  • Sheathed draw attack: He pauses with hand on sword, then unsheathes in a wide arc. Deflect or dodge backward.
  • Jumping slam: Jumps and slams down. Dodge sideways, then hit 2-3 times.
  • Perilous sweep: Red kanji — sweep attack. Jump and kick for posture damage.
  • Perilous thrust: Red kanji — thrust. Mikiri Counter for massive posture damage.

Phase 2 Strategy

  1. Stay close. Isshin is less dangerous up close than at range.
  2. Deflect his combos. The final hit of each combo has a long recovery — punish it.
  3. Use Ichimonji Double. After deflecting his combo, use Ichimonji. It recovers your posture and damages his.
  4. Don't get greedy. 1-2 hits max, then prepare to deflect.

🔱 Phase 3 — Isshin (Spear + Gun)

He pulls out a spear AND a gun. Massive range, new moveset.

New Attacks

  • Spear combo: 4-5 hit string with huge range. Deflect or use Umbrella.
  • Gun + spear: Shoots gun, then thrusts. Mikiri the thrust.
  • Wind attacks: Swings spear creating wind projectiles. Loaded Umbrella blocks completely.
  • Jumping spear slam: Jumps and slams spear. Dodge sideways.

Phase 3 Strategy

  1. Umbrella is your friend. His wind attacks are hard to dodge. Umbrella makes them trivial.
  2. Mikiri his spear thrusts. He thrusts often. Each Mikiri deals huge posture damage.
  3. Circling left. Most of his spear attacks hit to his right. Circle left to avoid them.
  4. Firecrackers for healing. When you need to heal, pop firecrackers to create distance.

⚡ Phase 4 — Isshin (Lightning)

Same as Phase 3 but adds lightning attacks. This is actually the EASIEST phase if you know Lightning Reversal.

✅ Lightning Reversal = Free Win

  1. Isshin jumps and channels lightning.
  2. Jump toward him (not away).
  3. While in the air, you get hit by lightning. Press R1 before landing.
  4. You throw the lightning back at him. He takes massive damage + stun.
  5. While stunned, hit him 4-5 times.

Each successful lightning reversal = ~20% of his HP. Do it 4-5 times and he dies.

Phase 4 Strategy

  • Bait his lightning attacks by staying at mid-range.
  • When he jumps, jump toward him immediately.
  • If you mess up the reversal, you take massive damage. Practice on Genichiro first.
  • Otherwise, play exactly like Phase 3.

💡 Pro Tips

Posture Management

Isshin recovers posture incredibly fast when his HP is high. Use shurikens when he backflips to stop posture recovery.

Healing Windows

Only heal after his jumping slam or after a lightning reversal. Any other time is risky.

Ako's Sugar Timing

Pop Ako's Sugar at the start of Phase 2. It lasts long enough to carry through Phase 3.

Don't Panic

His combos look scary but are deflectable. Stay calm, listen to the rhythm of the clashes.
